Naturasil Ringworm Treatments

Naturasil ringworm treatment

Naturasil is a company based in Buford, GA, and they market a variety of products to treat ringworm infections. It’s two main products include a “topical homeopathic ringworm treatment” and a sulfur-based soap. Their products are marketed as plant extracts and more effective than standard pharmaceutical ringworm treatments due to it’s capabilities of penetrating the skin more easily.

Ringworm Treatment

Naturasil’s ringworm treatment includes a topical application applied directly on the affected area. Similar to most topical antifungals, they recommend to apply the treatment 2-3 times daily for 1-3 weeks. Their topical treatment contains a variety of active ingredients all purported to treat the ringworm infection. The list includes:

Sulfur 6X HPUS

This product has been primarily used for scabies infections. These cause intense itching symptoms similar to that of ringworm but instead are caused by a particular skin mite – Sarcoptes scabiei. It is commonly used to merely treat the itching symptom.

Cymbopogon Citratus Leaf Oil

Commonly called “lemon grass”, this ingredient is primarily used for a variety of purposes due to its range of properties as an anti-amoebic, antibacterial, antidiarrheal, antifungal and anti-inflammatory [1]. In this case, it’s antifungal properties are included to directly treat the ringworm infection.

Eucalyptus Leaf Oil

Eucalyptus oil, like lemon grass, is known to be useful for a wide variety of applications in addition to treating ringworm infections. Among them, it acts as an antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial.

Jojoba Seed Oil

Jojoba oil is derived from the Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) shrub plant, and is used in Naturasil products for its fungicidal properties.

Lavender Oil

Naturasil claims that lavender oil is used for its antiseptic and pain relief properties, but it is also notably included in perfumes and aromas.

Melaleuca Alternifolia Leaf Oil

This ingredient is the precursor for the common “tea tree oil.” It is used in these products for its antibacterial property. It has also been traditionally used by indigenous tribes for treating wounds, coughs, and colds.

Patchouli Leaf Oil

Patchouli oil has been used extensively in the perfume industry as an additive for its scent. Naturasil states that this ingredient assists in the healing of dry itchy skin.

Sulfur Lavender Soap

Sulfur-soap

Aside from their topical ringworm treatment, Naturasil also markets a sulfur-based natural soap for ringworm and general tinea infections. Sulfur is known to be useful as a dermatological lotion or cream for treating acne. As an antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic (including the scabies mite), it is commonly used by cosmetic companies as a natural skin treatment.

Additional inactive ingredients included in Naturasil’s Sulfur Lavender soap include coconut oil, lavender oil, and palm oil which may also have antifungal effects as ringworm treatments.

Since sulfur is the main ingredient in this soap, it is worthy to note that this product does have an unpleasant odor to it which many individuals may not favor. Lavender is included, however, as an ingredient to help minimize the distinct odor.

It has also been noted in several reviews that the product will dry out the skin. Several essential oils are included as inactive ingredients which may also help to counteract the drying effect.
